Connecticut has lost a true gentleman. The late Earl Yost was an
outstanding sports writer and editor with an encyclopedic knowledge
of local teams and sports history. Earl served as the archivist for
the Manchester Road Race for over 50 years, and was instrumental in
organizing the Manchester Sports Hall of Fame, into which he was
inducted in 1987.
He kept meticulous records, and was generous with his time,
inspiring many young athletes and budding writers. He played
baseball, basketball, volleyball, and tennis on a competitive level,
and umpired high school, college, and professional baseball games
for 30 years.
